By Wade Williams · ·

Three hundred and three calls came in to the Teton Valley sheriff's blotter this week. Someone set off a firework in a Driggs field on Friday morning, and the field caught fire. It burned a couple of acres before crews knocked it down. A separate unpermitted burn went up in Driggs the same afternoon. No arrest or citation followed either.

Deputies arrested a sizable share of Victor's 20-year-old male population on cocaine charges, picking up three of a Census-estimated 39 men in the cohort between Friday night and 2:18 a.m. Saturday. They added a fourth controlled-substance charge Saturday afternoon for marijuana, paraphernalia, and intent to use. They arrested a 41-year-old Victor man Monday night for a second-offense DUI after a speeding stop, cited an individual for unloading "a bunch of stuff" into the bushes of a Victor business property, and gave a Driggs juvenile's parents an illegal-substance notice after a deputy spotted a plume of vapor leaving the juvenile walking down the street.

Elsewhere: 89 traffic stops, 36 security checks, six public assists, four non-injury accidents, two controlled burns, no hit-and-runs, a stalking report, a battery, two domestic-disturbance reports, a tobacco violation in Felt, three Tetonia smoke calls that turned out to be a tar-sealing crew, and an unattended death still under investigation.

Selected entries from the Teton Valley sheriff blotter follow.

10:00 A Victor resident reported that packages were stolen from their home. Deputies took a report and contacted the post office.

22:23 A deputy in Victor heard loud music coming from a vehicle and walked up to it. The driver, a 20-year-old Victor man, had alcohol in the car. The deputy asked if he could search; the driver consented and shoved something into his pocket. The deputy asked what he had pocketed. A bag of cocaine. The driver was arrested and transported to Madison County Jail.

17:08 A reported injury crash in Driggs turned out to be a no-injury rollover. The vehicle was towed.

09:41 A walk-in report at the Driggs sheriff's office described threatening cellphone messages from a known party. The investigation is ongoing.

16:50 An individual drove onto a Victor business property, unloaded "a bunch of stuff" into the bushes, and left. Deputies located the individual and served a criminal trespass citation.

20:22 A 41-year-old Victor man with a prior DUI was arrested for a second-offense DUI Monday night after a deputy stopped him for speeding. The deputy noted the odor of alcohol and slurred speech, administered a field sobriety test, and recorded breathalyzer readings of .131 and .129. A friend picked up the vehicle and drove him home; he was cited and released.

13:27, 14:10, and 15:05 Three separate Tetonia callers reported smoke on Thursday afternoon. Deputies made rounds and could not find a fire. The source: a tar-sealing crew.

02:13 and 02:18 A deputy patrolling Victor saw a vehicle drive behind an apartment building at 2 a.m. and went to check. Two men in blue jeans stepped out and said they were headed to the gym. The deputy smelled marijuana. A search turned up a pack of cigarettes with two bags of cocaine concealed inside. As deputies were making the arrest, a second vehicle pulled into the parking lot, drove off, and a deputy stopped it for illegal window tint. The second driver was the intended buyer; phone conversations on both phones linked the two. Deputies charged the first driver with delivery of a controlled substance and the second with attempted possession. Both were 20-year-old men from Victor.

18:59 A Driggs caller reported being bitten by an off-leash dog the previous Friday. The dog had ripped the caller's pants. The caller had tried to speak with the owner without success and was referred to the sheriff's office by PAWS, the local animal shelter. Deputies attempted to follow up and left a voicemail.

21:42 A Driggs apartment resident reported being assaulted at home by two individuals. The resident had injuries to the face, the back of the head, and the neck, and declined medical transport. Inconsistencies between the resident's account and witness statements left the evidence inconclusive; no charges were filed.

A school resource officer was involved.

16:07 Deputies checking fishing licenses at a pond near Highway 33 south of Victor noticed an angler across the pond. As he started toward the parking lot, deputies moved to meet him. He had no fishing license and had not kept any fish; a cooler check confirmed it. As one of the deputies approached the angler's vehicle, he caught a smell. Deputies inquired, and the 33-year-old Victor man said he had smoked before going to the pond. A probable-cause search of the vehicle turned up THC vapes, empty dispensary containers, and an open, half-finished vodka bottle in the back. Asked whether he had anything at home, the man said no. He consented to a search of his residence. At the house, he pointed out where the contraband was located. He was issued misdemeanor citations for possession of marijuana, paraphernalia, and intent to use.

10:08 A Victor caller reported standing water in the yard and could not tell where it was coming from. Road and bridge crews were notified and responded.
