Teton Valley sheriff blotter, the week of June 28–July 4. Four hundred eighty-three calls came in to the Teton County Sheriff's Office.

The week ended on the Fourth of July, and the holiday left its mark on the log: five fireworks calls, two reports of gunshots heard, and two dozen unfounded 911 calls. Deputies worked three DUI cases. One driver blew more than three times the legal limit and asked to skip the field sobriety test and go straight to the breathalyzer. Deputies took no theft reports all week.

18:15 A caller reported a smell inside a house: gas, rotten eggs, or possibly a dead animal. A fire crew responded and cleared the call.

19:01 A deputy in Driggs stopped a driver for reckless driving and smelled alcohol. The driver, a 46-year-old Victor man, said he had had nothing to drink; the deputy noted bloodshot, glossy eyes and a marijuana dispensary container in the center console. Field sobriety testing followed, and breathalyzer readings came back at .100 and .096. The driver consented to a search, which turned up a half-full miniature bottle of rum in the console and drug paraphernalia. He was cited and released for second-offense DUI, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.

10:47 A welfare check in Victor, requested after a resident could not be reached for several days, ended with deputies entering the home through an open window and finding the resident had died. Medics were called to the scene.

18:19 A Victor resident reported a vehicle creeping through the neighborhood, stopping at one house after another for a few minutes at a time and delivering nothing. Deputies responded but could not locate it.

12:22 A 77-year-old woman was rear-ended on the highway in Victor in a two-vehicle collision hard enough to send her into the windshield. By one account at the scene, the other vehicle did not appear to slow before impact; deputies found no skid marks. The drivers exchanged information, and the woman was taken to the hospital for her injuries.

17:06 A property owner who lives out of state reported that someone had been impersonating him to sell his vacant Victor property, working with a realtor out of Rexburg. The property was not for sale. The case remains under investigation.

21:22 A deputy watched a car cross the center line at speed outside Driggs and pulled it over. The driver, a 44-year-old Driggs man, at first said he had had nothing to drink, then changed course and told the deputy he was drunk, that a field sobriety test would be a waste of time, and that he would rather go straight to the breathalyzer. It read .266 and .262, more than three times the legal limit. He was arrested and booked, and, unable to post bond, was taken to the Madison County jail. He had a DUI on his record from 2023 and had been cited for excessive DUI four days earlier.

15:33 Someone near Felt reported horses on a property that looked like they were starving. Deputies made no contact at the scene; the horses were later collected by someone who came for them.

23:03 Deputies spent part of the day trying to locate a man who had sent several messages saying he intended to harm himself. He was reported first in Driggs, then in Victor, and his phone went to voicemail. Deputies determined the direction his vehicle was traveling and passed the information to authorities in Fremont County. 11:27 A Driggs business reported that a customer had threatened an employee who refused to serve them. The business had it on video. Deputies asked the customer to come to the sheriff's office to pick up a citation for disturbing the peace, and trespassed them from the property.

16:08 A vehicle rear-ended the back of a trailer in Driggs and left the scene. Deputies took a report but did not have enough evidence to locate the driver.

18:06 Deputies responded to a reported assault in Driggs on the Fourth of July and found several people who had been drinking and a verbal disagreement that had grown into what one of them called "a little argument." No charges were filed. By then, the parties could not remember what the argument had been about, or why they had called.

20:47 A caller reported a drunk driver headed for a bar and said the driver had several DUIs to his name. Deputies stopped the vehicle in Tetonia. The driver, a 52-year-old McCammon man, registered .170 and .168 on the breathalyzer. He was cited for first-offense DUI and given a verbal warning for crossing the center line; his vehicle was towed. He did not post bond and was taken to the Madison County jail.

22:57 Late on the Fourth of July, a parent called to report a daughter who had left home upset and could not be found. A short time later, the parent called back: she had turned up, safe.
