Rexburg Man Killed in Highway 33 Rollover After Hitting Elk
TETONIA — A 35-year-old Rexburg man died Monday morning after his truck struck a dead elk on State Highway 33 and rolled off the road.
Idaho State Police said the man was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 eastbound at approximately 7:04 a.m. when he hit the elk carcass, lost control, and rolled off the right shoulder. He was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.
ISP was assisted by the Teton County Sheriff's Office and the Idaho Transportation Department. The incident remains under investigation.
Highway 33 is the primary east-west route through Teton Valley, connecting Victor and Driggs to Rexburg and Idaho Falls via Teton Pass and the Ashton corridor. Animal strikes and winter driving conditions are recurring hazards on the highway.
